This is great info...though it shouldn't be labelled men with depression. I accidentally clicked it and found it describes exactly what I am experiencing right now.

+Wednesday Riding Women less so. They have shoulders lining up to be leaned on. It's also a part of the female sexual narrative to be weak and depressed - men will try to "save" weak women. No woman will save a man that isn't her son.

Men haven't been allowed to show pain, in our society. It's sad, because many are faking happiness, and women do this too. Lots of women fake it, before they can take it no more. My friend doesn't get up early, she sleeps till 1 PM, then says she's fine, lost her job.

For whatever it is worth. Having read a bit about anxiety/ depression, and being for the most part a prime example of a little nervous ball of negativity, I do realize all of the things mentioned in Mens Health Research videos. The problem as I see it is that those views are expressed by a very small minority of people interested in the topic, and are not as widespread as to make me to act on those feelings of wanting to talk to others. Example. I remember watching a TV show where gender roles were being discussed, and the subject of male suicide came up. Quote from memory: "What do those males have to be depressed about? hahaha". So that's for social atmosphere, now for help. Not being a part of the "Western World", I can speak only from my own experience when I say that psychologists help is less than widespread. And professional help is the only way I can imagine coping with how I feel. As I have already said, I feel that the public atmosphere is such that, going out and openly talking about one's problems creates an image of being week. I can't imagine anybody telling me to my face that I am a wuss, but I have seen my friends going around and talking about their "depression", how they were given some lip service, and how they for the most part ignored (who like's downers?). And I understand why that is (I think I do). Having others to listean to me takes a big toll on them, puts them under pressure to help, and simply put, takes away from theirs "good time". I do not go out of my way to other's to see how they are so why should they come to me, right? So professional help is the answer. When available. As for all the downsides, while they're there, I can't help but feel there are some benefits as well. So feeling down eats at me? May be, still it makes me engage in "productive" activities (as stated in the video, but not as a benefit, but simply and espape mechanism). When sitting alone in the room, thinking how others are having a good time, thinking about my own state, and all the things I am not, I have to tell you working out & studying have never been eaisier. And those times when somebody notices my effort are my main source of joy these days. I might be verbaly aggresive when drunk, I might run at night while others enjoy themselves, I might feel acute pain every time I get to know somebody just to slowly go from "Hi, how are you" to looking at my feet. I happens, but I will be damed if I trade it off for forced smiles, and "It is going to be alright"s. And who knows, maybe one day I earn considerable amounts of money, which in turn will give me some power and make me more attractive, making me overall a happier person. Maybe, huh? All of the things I have written are pretty usless in terms of understanding the issues other males might experience in general, are probably biased and all that, but got some pleassure as I was writing down how I feel. How I feel for the most part, I probably left out some more disturbing/ ugly stuff that would make me look less deserving of smypathy and would stop people from telling me to hang in there. So thanks again Internet, and thank you Mens Health Research.

well , i don't know anything about it but isn't it true that a person who can go to the length of suicide to relieve himself , that whatever is hurting them is actually something they can consider dying to get rid of ! so how could they spill ? It sounds like one of the toughest things to confide and to trust someone not to spread it like a virus ! i mean something which is already hurting them and that amplified but everyone knowing about it ! either giving their sympathy or laughing ! sounds damn hard

I think the true stigma is public admission of pain, confusion, uncertainty, anger. All the feelings that accumulate around failures, losses, lack, loneliness and so on. Where do most of us turn when we have need to talk and explore? Therapy is only sometimes useful. True problem solving consultation might be more useful. Only this morning, the acknowledgement of an experienced person soothed my emotional pain. Now what. At the moment, suicide seems to be that choice which finally says, "I don't care what others think of what I do. I just need to change my experience, now."

this man is so very brave, and i had no idea that many men are suffering like this - i thought it interesting how he speaks about being the provider, the hunter and so on ... and stigma's ... and losing or the feeling of losing the ability to carry on forever as such is quite hard on them
